Still on lockdown…..
All our children, young people and staff are well. Sadly they are still on lockdown and they have now received news that schools will not open again until January 2021. This will mean they will have been out of school for between 9-10 months which is a long time for them. They continue to do some school work at the home but as we do not have internet connection it relies on the school books we have in our possession. We are still awaiting information from Isaac’s university regarding his graduation as well as his internship at a TV station in Nairobi.
As we included in our June update, we continue to deal with food shortages throughout Kenya making food both very expensive and also difficult to obtain. We have recently purchased some food from over the Tanzanian border which is 600 miles away. This highlights the current difficulties, not just for ourselves but also the Kenyan people. We have sent some money in August to enable us to plant beans and vegetables again. Both these are on shorter growing cycles so we are hopeful of producing before the end of the year.
We have also had some fantastic recent support as a fundraiser for food.
Thank you so much to Jon, Joe, Becky, Conor, Jan & Naakesha for undertaking such an amazing challenge in aid of St Dorcas. They completed 112 mile bike ride (starting at 5.30am in the morning) immediately followed by running a marathon; overall it took 12.5 hours, excluding breaks. What an incredible achievement everyone and thank you so much. Thank you also to Martin and Neil, husbands of two of our Trustees who completed the bike ride part too.
Their combined efforts have raised over £4000 which will greatly assist us in buying food for our children and young people. THANK YOU!
